Rarely is the decision to get a legal separation or divorce an easy one. Even when things have been difficult, the uncertainty that comes with divorce can be overwhelming.

Don't be afraid to talk to a divorce lawyer now, even if you are only in the early stages of decision making. This is the best time to get accurate information so you can make an informed decision about how to move forward.

We are Fall River divorce attorney Wilfred C. Driscoll, Jr. and Lauri A. Sanford. In our combined 50 years as a family law attorneys, we have helped thousands of people through the process of divorce in Massachusetts family courts. In early conversations with clients, we often hear that a family member or friend has given them inaccurate information that has caused them considerable anxiety. This is unfortunate. we take the time, in a free initial consultation, to answer their questions honestly. Contact the Driscoll Sanford Family Law to schedule your free consultation.

If you choose to work with us as your divorce lawyer, we will provide the guidance you need as you move from separation to divorce. We give all of our clients a personal cell phone number so you can contact us 24/7. If it's an emergency for you, it's an emergency for us. We return calls promptly, always within 24 hours.

Contested or Uncontested Divorce

If you and your spouse are in agreement about your divorce and you have worked out many of the details regarding property division, child custody and support, you can proceed with an uncontested divorce. I can draft your agreement for you and your spouse's attorney can review it and it can then be submitted to the court for approval.

If you are not in agreement, then your divorce is "contested." You may choose to engage in divorce mediation in order to arrive at an agreement. We am a certified divorce mediator (although we can operate only as your mediator or as your attorney, not both). We can also negotiate a settlement on your behalf. Divorce litigation is time-consuming and costly, so mediation and litigation should be tried first in order to protect your financial assets. If negotiations and mediation fail, however, you can fall back on Massachusetts family court to issue a decision in the form of an order or judgment.

We have taken many divorce cases to trial in order to ensure our clients achieved their goals for child custody or financial stability. We am comfortable preparing and presenting a strong and effective case in court and many clients choose us because of our extensive trial court experience.
